At Advanced Veterinary Care of San Elijo, we now offer a new service that is safe and effective for removing small, benign lesions. Dogs (and cats) tend to develop skin tags or warts as they age. For the most part, these are only a cosmetic issue. However, some small masses can become a problem for your pet, particularly if they develop on the face, ears or eyelids.
Cryosurgery, or targeted cryotherapy, delivers a very fine jet of liquefied gas that enables us to target the skin lesion without damaging the surrounding tissue. This gas causes the water in cells to freeze and disrupts the blood supply. The damaged cells are then cleared out by the immune system and the dead cells are shed by the body. This procedure does not require anesthesia or a surgical incision. There are minimal complications associated with this treatment and can be done during a scheduled appointment, which makes it fast, inexpensive and convenient.
What can cryosurgery be used on?
Please call our office to schedule an appointment if you believe your pet can benefit from this service. (760)736-3636.
It’s an exciting time of year with those college acceptance letters coming in, and having to make a final decision where your student will attend school this fall. At Advanced Veterinary Care of San Elijo we have had two patients bitten by rattlesnakes just within the last week. We recommend the following precautions to keep your pet safe from rattlesnake envenomation:
Keep your dogs on a leash at all times while walking or hiking.
Walk your dog in the middle of the walkway or trail and keep an eye out for snakes on or beside the trail.
Avoid letting your pet explore areas with brush, tall grass, rocks, and logs.
Keep your yard neat and uncluttered to avoid unwanted reptile guests.
Avoid using bird feeders which attract rodents (and consequently snakes) during the spring and summer.
In the event that your pet is bitten by a rattlesnake seek immediate veterinary care! The doctors at Advanced Veterinary Care are very experienced in treating rattlesnake bites. We are prepared to provide the care that your pet needs, including administration of anti-venin.
Please call our office if you have any questions regarding rattlesnake bite prevention, treatment or vaccination. 760-736-3636
