Cocos Fire size currently 3,018 acres

The Cocos Fire size is currently 3,018 acres with ten percent containment and fire crews are working around the clock to ensure safety and to get residents back to their homes as soon as possible. No injuries have been reported. 

No changes in reopoulation orders and  mandatory evacuations at this time.  

PARTIAL REPOPULATION AREAS:

Residents on the west side of Via Vera Cruz, including neighborhoods of Lake San Marcos and residences to the east up to Via Vera Cruz.

Entry points into the neighborhoods listed above will be through Rancho Santa Fe, from the southwest and Discovery Street to Via Vera Cruz from the north.

Mandatory Evacuations are to REMAIN in PLACE for the following locations:
The neighborhoods of Discovery Hills, Discovery Meadows, San Elijo Hills, Oak Creek Ranch, Coronado Hills and residents living north and west of West Valley Parkway between Via Rancho Parkway and Highway 78.

For mandatory evacuations still in place, statewide fire crews are working around the clock to ensure area safety and get residents back to their homes as soon as possible.

Road Closures
Road closures have been issued for the following locations. Due to these closures, morning traffic is expected to be congested. Residents and motorists are advised to avoid these roads and use alternate routes.

-Discovery Street east of Via Vera Cruz
-San Elijo Road (all directions)
-Melrose Drive east of Rancho Santa Fe Road
-Elfin Forest Road (from City limits)
-Questhaven Road (from City limits)
-Coronado Hills Drive (all directions)
-La Moree Road (all directions)
-La Costa Meadows Drive (all directions)
-Cima Drive east of Via Vera Cruz
-Canyon Heights east of Via Vera Cruz
-Bridgeport Court north of Via Vera Cruz
-Honeysuckle Drive north of Via Vera Cruz
-Honeyglen Drive east of Via Vera Cruz
-Bent Avenue south of W. San Marcos Blvd.

The following off ramps on eastbound SR-78 are closed:
– Nordahl Road, eastbound

Trash services collection has been delayed in all evacuation areas.

For safety purposes, power has been shut down for all of Coronado Hills. Utilities such as water and sewer have not been disrupted.

City Hall will remain open for regular business hours at significantly reduced staffing levels.

San Marcos Community Services, including the Senior Center and Gymnasium will be closed through Friday, May 16, and all classes have been canceled.

The top priority in a situation of this magnitude has been and continues to be the safety and security of San Marcos citizens. As this safety is assured, the next major priority is to protect the structures in the way of this major fire.

CAL FIRE is now the all regional fire resource management agencies coordinating the unified command response for the Cocos Fire.

Governor Jerry Brown has declared a state of emergency for San Diego County and the City of San Marcos has also declared a state of emergency. The City of San Marcos will receive both federal and state support to maintain prolonged resource deployment in response to the fires currently burning across 1,200 acres in San Marcos and surrounding areas.
