The City of San Marcos is offering residents free, fill-your-own sandbags for San Marcos residents to help protect personal property from flooding and soil erosion.

The sandbags can be filled and picked up at the southwest corner of the Public Works Division parking lot, 201 Mata Way; maximum 20 bags per resident.

As we head into the predicted El Niño season, residents are urged to prepare properties now by using mulch or terrace the slopes and plant groundcovers and shrubs to keep them from eroding. For more El Niño preparedness resources, visit www.san-marcos.net/elnino.

For more information about road closures, sandbags or to report flooding, call the city’s Public Works Department at (760) 752-7550.
