Spring San Elijo Hills Community Association (HOA) Updates & Events

Community Garden Lottery

It is time for our annual community garden lottery! Participating in the garden is a great way to grow your own flowers, vegetables and herbs! Planter boxes will be available from April 1, 2015– March 31, 2016. The cost of a yearly lease is $50.00 plus a $25.00 key deposit and must be pre-paid. All existing lessees must reapply for the lottery. Current users who are not reselected in this year’s lottery must vacate their planter boxes no later than April 1st, 2015. If you would like to participate in the lottery to lease a space in one of the community gardens, please submit your application to Ted Tuleck no later than Friday, March 27th. Lottery winners will be notified the week of March 30th. Please email Ted at sehdirector@waltersmanagement.com for more information or to obtain a lottery application.

Questhaven Park Maintenance Closures

Please be advised that we will be repairing the turf in the Questhaven Park over the next two months. This is an extensive project that will be completed in two phases in order to allow you to continue to use portions of the park during the renovation. The renovations will not impact your use of the playground.

The project will begin on March 16. A portion of the grass area will be closed so that we may remove the damaged areas and re-sod and re-seed the turf. We will be starting with the south side of the park. Once this area is completed, it will be reopened and we will close the north side of the park. Each section will be closed for up to six weeks. Please follow are signage and do not use the areas that are closed. If residents do not follow the signs and use areas before they are re-opened, we may need to extend the project.

While turf repair is a normal part of maintenance, the rate of deterioration of grass is accelerated when the park is used for commercial purposes or when residents heavily use the grass when it is wet. Please limit your use of the turf areas when the grass is wet, and please report commercial use to Walters Management. If you are able to provide us with the business contact information, we will be happy to follow-up with the commercial entity in order to protect our parks while suggesting alternatives within the city for their use. The goal is not to take away opportunities for residents to stay active within the community—we simply want to ensure our parks are readily available for use and enjoyed by all residents without excessive damage and unnecessary closures.

The Board of Directors feels strongly that we must continue to work together to ensure that San Elijo Hills is well maintained and continues to be a premier community in North County. Thank you for your cooperation and for doing your part to help maintain our community.

Rattlesnake Warning

Rattlesnake season is upon us again! Did you know that rattlesnake bites are the most common reason pets visit the veterinarian during “snake season”? There are a few things you can do to protect you and your furry loved ones:

-Routinely examine your yard before allowing children or pets to go out in it.
-If you see a snake, do not disturb it; get away from it quickly and take your pets and children with you.
-Do not handle live rattlesnakes.
-Do not keep a rattlesnake as a pet; it is against the law.
-Do not pick up a piece of firewood from a woodpile with your bare hands – use a long stick to break a piece loose from the pile.
