Parking

The Holiday season is upon us! Food, shopping, and school breaks (how are you going to get your shopping done?!) are most likely on your mind. Parking may not be on your radar. Add parking for guests during the Holidays on top of your current parking situation can always be a challenge. Not only is this a good time to think about where to put all those cars, but to consider the Association’s rules and year round parking issues within the community.

• Streets become more crowded when garages and driveways are not utilized for parking. Vehicles should be parked in available garage space first, then parked in the driveway, and then, if necessary, parked in the street.
• Garages shall be used for vehicles and other personal storage only.
• (Section 8.6): No trailer, camper, boat, recreation vehicle, commercial vehicle or similar equipment shall hereafter be permitted to remain upon the property (unless placed or maintained within an enclosed garage) nor permitted to be parked on any street, whether public or private, alley or community common area or project common area within the San Elijo Hills Community other than temporarily for purposes of loading, unloading or cleaning.

Town Square Fountain

Our beautiful fountain located in the center of the Town Square Park is a community asset which has been long enjoyed by residents.

The fountain uses recirculating water. A pump sends water from a reservoir at the base throughout the entire system. The pump continues to recycle the water as long as it is turned on.

Recently, in order to conserve water resources and to further the Association’s efforts to comply with the water reduction measures mandated by the State, the Association drained the fountain.

Unfortunately, in that time numerous incidents of children running through the empty fountain, skateboarders skating in the fountain, and children climbing on the fountain have occurred. Such activity has led the Association to reevaluate their previous decision to shut the fountain down, primarily due to public safety issues as well as the very real economic concern regarding what it may cost to restore the fountain if it were damaged during such activities. The potential safety and financial concerns heavily outweighed any minimal gains in water conservation that might be made by having it shut down.

Therefore, weighing all factors as thoroughly and objectively as possible, the Board of Directors voted in favor of having the fountain refilled and the pump turned back on for residents to again enjoy. It is expected that the fountain will be flowing again prior to the upcoming Thanksgiving Weekend.

Address Numbers

Clear and visible address numbers are important when it comes to safety. Please check your address numbers and replace any faded or missing numbers. This is a safety concern, which could potentially delay first responders in an emergency response.

It also impacts the general aesthetics of the community and is part of the required maintenance per the Governing Documents.

Artificial Turf

The San Elijo Hills Community Association Board of Directors is aware that Governor Brown has signed emergency legislation (AB 349) restricting Associations from prohibiting the use of artificial turf or any other synthetic surface that resembles grass. Bill AB 340 does not prohibit an Association from applying landscaping rules, so long as the rules fully conform to restrictions in Civil Code 4735(a).

The Board is currently in the process of creating a proposed policy, which will be provided to the membership and formally adopted after the review and comment period in accordance with California Civil Code 1357.130.

We appreciate your patience and understanding while the Board of Directors creates a policy that incorporates the synthetic material while maintaining a certain level of aesthetics and consistency in the community.

Double Peak Park Hours

As a reminder to residents, Double Peak Park is closed at dusk and persons in the parking lot and behind the lower gate will be cited by the Sheriff. Please be courteous and refrain from entering this area after the park is closed, which often disturbs the residents nearby.

Water Restrictions Effective June 1st

On May 20, 2015, Vallecitos’ Board of Directors adopted emergency drought restrictions under Ordinance 195 that limits all outdoor irrigation, excluding certified agricultural or commercial growers, during the months of June through October to 2 unassigned days per week/8 minutes per station. If demands are not reduced by 24%, additional enforcement may be needed and the District may need to reduce watering to 1 assigned day per week.

Please remember to keep your yard weed free and maintained to ensure our community continues to look its best!

Recent Resident Concerns

It has been brought to our attention that kids are using party poppers in common areas.

“Party snaps” or “party poppers,” are designed to make a small bang when thrown against the ground. The party snaps make a flash when they explode and can potentially be hazardous if not properly used. Party snaps should not be used by kids without adult supervision. Parents who want to use the party snaps or similar products are advised to read the warning labels.

We encourage you to speak with your kids about refraining from this activity.

The SEH Team were doing Problem 3, Division 1, “Pandora’s Box” (for more information, see http://www.odysseyofthemind.com/materials/2015problems.php )

We’re so proud of them! They represented our San Elijo Hills community on an international stage, competing against teams from across the US, Singapore, China, Poland and others. To finish in the Top 10 was an amazing accomplishment. The kids were recognized for their achievements by the San Marcos City Council in June.

Congratulations to the kids for all their hard work throughout the year on this project! They had a blast doing it and are looking forward to getting their hands on next year’s problems!

The kids would like to thank everyone in San Elijo Hills, their friends and family for their well-wishes and support. Most of all, they would like to thank San Elijo Hills Foundation for sponsoring the team!

Movie Night July 10th

The San Elijo Hills Community Association is hosting a FREE showing of Paddington (rated PG) as part 2 of our summer movie series!

From the beloved novels by Michael Bond and producer David Heyman (Harry Potter), Paddington tells the story of the comic misadventures of a young Peruvian bear (voiced by Ben Whishaw) who travels to London in search of a home. Finding himself lost and alone, he begins to realize that city life is not all he had imagined – until he meets the kindly Brown family who read the label around his neck that says “Please look after this bear. Thank you,” and offer him a temporary haven. It looks as though his luck has changed until this rare talking bear catches the eye of a museum taxidermist (Nicole Kidman).

Paddington will be shown on Friday, July 10th at the upper sports field (Hilltop Field) of San Elijo Park. Pre-show activities (including bounce houses, a sticky wall and more!) will begin at 6:00PM and the movie will start at sunset (around 8:00PM). Remember to bring your low-back beach chairs and blankets for lawn seating!

A few food trucks will be there, and will have a variety of food & refreshments for purchase. A portion of the food truck proceeds benefit the San Elijo Hills Foundation.

For more information, feel free to contact the Community Director at sehdirector@waltersmanagement.com or call (760) 798-9015.

San Elijo Hills Foundation Pace Car Campaign

The PACE Car Campaign was originally triggered by a long-time resident of San Elijo Hills. Her idea stemmed from the concept of PACE Cars and how they help set the pace during a race.
-What if every resident was driving the speed limit in SEH?
-How would that affect the pace of traffic through the community?
-Can we as residents help set the pace in SEH?

Let’s find out! By building on this PACE Car concept & getting residents to commit to being vigilant about the traffic limits around our community, we believe, together, we can create a culture of safety in SEH.

Anyone who lives in SEH is encouraged to TAKE THE PACE PLEDGE. In exchange for your pledge, the SEH Foundation will provide you with a special SEH PACE Car sticker for your car window. Not only will seeing this sticker remind you to drive the speed limit, it will also serve as a moving billboard that reminds others around you to consider doing the same.

To take the pledge, please visit the SEH Foundation Website: http://sanelijohillsfoundation.weebly.com/pace-car-campaign.html.
You may also visit the San Elijo Hills Foundation Facebook page at https://www.facebook.com/SanElijoHillsFoundation

  • The San Elijo Hills Community Association supports the individual action by community members to address issues that affect us all, however, as a reminder, the streets within the community are public and under the purview of the City of San Marcos. The Association has no direct enforcement ability with regard to speeding, parking, or other traffic related concerns”

San Elijo Hills Events

You may be wondering why all recent events have been scheduled for the upper Hilltop field. The City of San Marcos has required all of our events are located on the Hilltop (most upper field) as a result of damage to the ball fields. Based on concerns by local organizations, the fields have been off limits so that the turf has time to “heal.” The Association is making every effort possible to schedule future events at the ball fields.

Community Director News

Special Delivery! Liz McCardle continues to compliment the Management team and has now transitioned as the new onsite Community Director. Liz will also continue supporting the Board of Directors and Architectural Review Committee through the management of community-building activities and the architectural approval process. Interested in modifying your yard? Freshening up the paint to your home? Now you may simply complete an Architectural Application along with the necessary plans and head on down to the Visitor’s Center! Please contact Liz McCardle at 760-798-9015 or by email-sehdirector@waltersmanagement.com. For all other Association related matters, please contact the Community Association Manager, Rebecca McDonald, or her assistant Michael Farinelli at 760-431-2522.

Congratulations to the The San Elijo Hills Odyssey of the Mind Team on their state Championship!

The San Elijo Hills Odyssey of the Mind Team

San Elijo Hills is proud to support this amazing 5th grade team of students from our community as they prepare to compete at the Odyssey of the Mind World finals!

Odyssey of the Mind is an international educational program that provides creative problem-solving opportunities for students from kindergarten through college. In this annual competition, team members apply their creativity to solve problems that range from building mechanical devices to presenting their own interpretation of literary classics.

The nonprofit San Elijo Hills Foundation provided the team with the nonprofit status they needed to enter and compete.

San Elijo Hills Development Company has committed to match funds up to $2000 for monies raised. This is your chance to double your support.

Here’s how you can help.

Please take a minute and make a contribution – small or large – to their fundraising campaign posted at http://www.gofundme.com/qqf5bg.

Please support our San Elijo Hills Odyssey of The Mind Team

San Elijo Hills Odyssey of the Mind team

Please support our San Elijo Hills Odyssey of the Mind team in their goal to attend the  World Finals in Michigan State University on May 20-23!

http://www.gofundme.com/qqf5bg

OotM is a “creative competition.” The kids are tasked with putting together an 8 minute skit completely by themselves. After months of hard work, they enter their skit in tournaments and compete against other teams from the region, state and possibly the nation and world. The program focuses on creativity, teamwork, project management and decision making.

The team is made up Ella, Katja, Maya, Marissa, Elisenne, Claudia and Morgan. They are sponsored by the San Elijo Hills Foundation and are students of SEES. The kids have been hard at work on their project since the school year.

In the regional competition in Feb, they placed 2nd and advanced to State. Last weekend, they competed at UC Riverside, and came in 1st place out of all of California! This allowed them to advance to the World Finals at the end of May at Michigan State University in Lansing, MI.

At the World Finals, there will be about 800 teams from all over the world, showcasing their creative solutions! This will be a once-in-a-lifetime experience for the kids.

We’re very excited and very proud of them. The elite schools from Poway, Carlsbad and Encinitas routinely have OotM teams place high in these tournaments. This year, our kids put San Elijo Hills and SEES on the map as the place for bright and creative kids!
