Parking

The Holiday season is upon us! Food, shopping, and school breaks (how are you going to get your shopping done?!) are most likely on your mind. Parking may not be on your radar. Add parking for guests during the Holidays on top of your current parking situation can always be a challenge. Not only is this a good time to think about where to put all those cars, but to consider the Association’s rules and year round parking issues within the community.

• Streets become more crowded when garages and driveways are not utilized for parking. Vehicles should be parked in available garage space first, then parked in the driveway, and then, if necessary, parked in the street.
• Garages shall be used for vehicles and other personal storage only.
• (Section 8.6): No trailer, camper, boat, recreation vehicle, commercial vehicle or similar equipment shall hereafter be permitted to remain upon the property (unless placed or maintained within an enclosed garage) nor permitted to be parked on any street, whether public or private, alley or community common area or project common area within the San Elijo Hills Community other than temporarily for purposes of loading, unloading or cleaning.

Vallecitos Water District: Drought Information
As you may be aware, the drought is likely to continue through 2015 as forecasters predict another warm winter with little rain. As a result, the Vallecitos Water District is calling on customers to comply with mandatory water conservation measures that include limiting outdoor watering to one-day-per-week for 10 minutes per station. Can your lawn withstand another dry season if additional water-use restrictions are needed? For many people, a lush, green lawn may be a thing of the past. Fortunately, water-efficient landscapes using California friendly plants, artificial turf, or rocks or mulch offer an attractive alternative to water-intensive grass.

To help you transform your landscape and conserve water, the Vallecitos Water District, in collaboration with its wholesalers, offers turf replacement rebates. The rebates, available to all Vallecitos Water District customers, provide incentives of up to $3.50 per square foot for replacing turf grass with water-efficient landscaping options more suited to the region’s semi-arid climate. There are many different landscaping options to choose from to qualify for these rebates.

Advances in technology can also significantly reduce water use. As such, rebates are available for many water efficient devices, including water efficient rotating sprinkler nozzles and weather-based irrigation controllers that use weather data and site information to adjust watering times and frequency. Rain barrels are also included in the program and offer an excellent way to collect rain runoff for irrigation. With rebates of $75 per rain barrel, this can significantly reduce the cost for rainwater harvesting. The District also provides free landscape irrigation audits, where a certified water-use specialist will come to your home or business and develop a tailor-made plan to achieve the best water savings possible.

Customers who participate in the District’s water-conservation programs may see substantial savings on their water bills. Water smart landscapes can cut outdoor water use by up to 70 percent through a combination of plant selection and irrigation technology. In addition to potentially saving money, California friendly landscapes often require less maintenance and produce a variety of colorful, seasonal foliage that attract butterflies, birds and other wildlife. With a little planning and some assistance from the District, customers can do their part to reduce water consumption, while creating a beautiful, drought-resistant landscape to enjoy for many years to come.

For more conservation information, visit www.vwd.org/conservation

Please note: A landscape application must be submitted to Walters Management and approved before any changes to your yard may take place. Also, artificial turf is not permitted in the front yard area but is allowed in your backyard.

San Elijo Hills Association Updates

San Elijo Hills

San Elijo Turkey Classic: Saturday, November 30th

Fooooooore! A small golf tournament that began among neighbors in 2002 continues to grow and will be back this year! The Turkey Classic will be held on the Saturday after Thanksgiving (November 30th). All registration fees will go towards paying for your round of golf, as well as your family’s meal at the after party. Anything that is leftover will go into the coffers of the San Elijo Hills Foundation, which then goes toward community enhancements. This year, there will not likely be anything leftover (unless of course someone reading this would like to step up and take advantage of some fun sponsorship opportunities), but in the future, there are lots of opportunities to turn this neighborhood tradition into something that directly benefits the community.

Not a golfer? No problem. The wonderful thing about the Turkey Classic is that there is no pressure to be the best golfer. In fact, to this day, the worst golfer goes home with the biggest prize. Both men and women have competed for the coveted jacket.

You never know what’s going to happen at the Turkey Classic. The one thing you do know is that it will be fun! Believe us, whether you’ve participated in the past or never even heard of it┘you really won’t want to miss the Turkey Classic 2013.

Registration is limited, so if you’re going to be in town Thanksgiving weekend (and yes, bring your relatives!), then reserve your spot for what will be the beginning of a whole new era for this neighborhood tradition. For more information on this event and to register, visit www.turkeyclassic.com. Hope to see you there!
