April 19, 2024

A periodic lane closure has been scheduled starting Thursday, Jan. 9 for the westbound lane of Discovery Street between Craven Road and Joy Court to allow SDG&E and their contractor to relocate existing electrical utilities. SDG&E will need to close this lane periodically for safety reasons as they begin to move existing electrical poles and string new electrical lines.

SDG&E is completing this work in advance of the start of active construction for the City’s San Marcos Creek Project.  This work is related to the Creek Project, but is not part of the City’s active construction that will begin with the closure of Bent Avenue in January/February 2020.

How Long Will This Last?

The periodic closure along Discovery Street from Craven Road to Joy Court will be in effect from Thursday, Jan. 9 until Friday, March 6 to accommodate the utility relocation. It is anticipated that SDG&E will close the lane periodically as needed, to allow for safe and efficient relocation of the utilities and installation of new electrical lines in the project area.

What To Expect During Periodic Closures

Work will take place Monday through Friday from 7 a.m. – 4 p.m. No night and weekend work is expected at this time. If night and weekend work is needed, notice will be provided in advance.

Eastbound traffic along Discovery Street will be maintained at all times. Traffic delays are expected during closures and drivers are encouraged to use alternate routes and avoid the area during the periodic closures. SDG&E will install advanced warning signs about the closure and traffic detours, when in effect.

Traffic Detours

During closures, westbound traffic will be routed through Bent Avenue to West San Marcos Boulevard to Via Vera Cruz and back to Discovery Street.
