Vallecitos Water District Invokes Water Shortage Contingency Plan Level 1 asking for Voluntary Water Conservation Efforts due to SDCWA Repairs to 90-inch Diameter Drinking Water Pipe

San Marcos, CA – The San Diego County Water Authority is preparing to launch a major project to fix a leak in Pipeline 4 in the Moosa Canyon area of Bonsall. Pipeline 4 is a 90- inch diameter pipeline that provides treated drinking water throughout San Diego County, including the Vallecitos Water District (VWD). The leak site is in a remote area with no adjacent homes or business. Pipeline 4 will be shut down for up to 10 days. The shutdown likely will start on September 9, 2019, however, these dates may be adjusted depending on the severity of the pipeline leak or dangerous weather conditions, such as Santa Ana winds or Red Flag warnings.

VWD is asking customers to restrict outdoor irrigation to the MAXIMUM EXTENT POSSIBLE beginning September 9, 2019, through the duration of the shutdown. Customers should also refrain from other outdoor water uses such as: washing vehicles and filling fountains, pools, spas or ponds. Please remember to turn off all outside irrigation/lawn timers during the water use restriction period. Livestock can continue to be watered.

VWD is suggesting customers deep soak their groves and landscaping prior to September 8th to minimize the impact to our water supply. VWD staff is already implementing strategies to mitigate the impacts of this shutdown. Updates and additional information can be found here: www.vwd.org.
